Ouarzazate & Ait ben Haddou Kasbah Full Day trip

Immerse yourself in the incredible Moroccan landscape on a private full-day tour as we will pick you up from your Hotel/Riad or Ouarzazate airport by an air-conditioning 4×4, Van or Minibus to start the sightseeing of Ouarzazate; a former caravan town on the silk and salt route in the eastern foothills of the Atlas Mountains.

Ouarzazate, home to the Tauorirt Kasbah, one of the strongholds of the Glaoui family who once ruled the south of Morocco and known as the gateway to Sahara desert, we’ll make our way to the Taourirt kasbah former home of the famous Pacha Glaoui. The painted ceilings, arches, beautiful small windows with wrought iron works and woodwork have helped make it another UNESCO site.

The local guide will unfold the hidden stories about the lifestyle of the pasha in the former feudalistic Moroccan society, stressing the status of his women, the favorites and common-law wives as well as the slaves. After that, we will drive outside the town to enjoy a private visit of the Atlas Corporation Studio, a well –known cinematographic center renowned for blockbuster productions including Asterix and Cleopatre directed by Alain Chabat; and the Oscar-wining Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott. (entry 50 DH/person, 8:30 am till 6 pm – depending on the season) and the Museum of Cinema (entry 30 DH/person, 8 am-6 pm). Thanks to its amazing landscapes, good infrastructures, friendly people and cheap authorizations. We’ll continue our way to Ait Ben Haddou a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved Kasba’s in the entire Atlas region. Don’t be surprised if you feel as if you are stepping into another, more ancient world, as the Kasbah has been the backdrop to many historical films, including Lawrence of Arabia, The Last Temptation of Christ, and Gladiator.

If you are a fan of A Game of Thrones you will recognize Ait Ben Haddou from the final scene of series three. (The series has used a number of locations around Morocco.) In the afternoon, on our way back to the city we’ll stop at Tifoultoute kasbah, Another of the Glaoui palaces this one is just 8km from Ouarzazate. This kasbah also appeared in films like Jesus of Nazareth and Lawrence of Arabia. It also served as a hotel for film crews and production staff when they were on location. Today it’s been abandoned and left to the elements but it is offering a great panoramic view of the Ouarzazate River.
