Itinerary

5 Days Sahara Desert tour from Tangier to Marrakech

Day 1Tangier—Chefchaouen—Fes

Welcome to morocco, Welcome to Tangier–the gateway between Europe and Africa. We will pick you up from your accommodation in Tangier, and then drive you toward Fes city, the cultural capital of Morocco passing through Rif Mountains and some small towns, one of them is Chefchaouen, , or ‘Chaouen’ as it’s known locally, This town is a visual delight in blue; walls, doors, windows; stairways, alleyways and archways – everything is a combination of soft pastel sky blue and deeper, more powerful hues. It’s a small town so you will have enough time to explore this Moroccan blue pearl. After lunch, ou say goodbye to Chefchaouen and head south to Fez, one of the most beautiful Morocco’s imperial cities, where you can prepare for tomorrow’s fascinating tour around this delightful medieval city.

Day 2Fes Guided Tour

This is your opportunity to see the UNESCO protected Fez Medina through the eyes of a local, with your own private guide. Fes is the oldest of the imperial cities in Morocco and perhaps the most interesting to explore. A UNESCO protected site, the city hasn’t undergone much colonial development, leaving you to experience its medieval charm. Fes consists of two old medina quarters, Fes el Bali (and where you will spend most of your time) and Fes el Jdid (a slightly newer part of the city), and the early 20th-century French designed Ville Nouvelle. Meet your guide to help you navigate the narrow and maze-like ancient streets of the medinas, starting in Fes el Bali (789 CE).Note the Spanish and Tunisian influenced architecture as you pass the variety of souks (markets) offering spices, leather goods, and pewter. Known for its tanneries and the acrid smell associated with them, visit the popular Chouara Tannery and climb to the roof of a nearby shop for a better view of the goings-on. Visit the 14th-century Al Attarine Madrasa and admire the zellij tilework before checking out one of the oldest, still operating universities in the world, Al-Qarawiyyin University (859 CE). Find the Mellah (old Jewish quarter) in Fes el Jdid for another encompassing view of the city.

Day 3Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt – Ziz Valley –– Rissani – Merzouga

You will leave Fez early this morning and head into the Middle Atlas Mountains. enjoy a nice drive through Berber villages. Stop in the beautiful city of Ifrane (known as “Moroccan Switzerland “), continue to Azrou, the famous cedar forest where you can see the monkeys, and pause in Midelt city, where you can have lunch. After lunch, we continue to Erfoud is famous for fossils, through Ziz Valley (a nice panoramic view with the scenery of the oasis). On the drive from Erfoud to the dunes, you will see some nomadic Berber tribes, don’t forget to take iconic photographs. Arrive in Merzouga where you will meet your camels to trek through the desert, over the red dunes, until all you see is sand and sky, and the quiet is only broken by the occasional snort of the camels and the soft sound of their steps on the sand. Stop to watch the sunset along the way before arriving at your camp, where you will be welcomed with mint tea and cookies. After some time to admire the sand dunes and the surrounding landscapes, get ready for a Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to the campfire. After dinner, you will gather around the fire to admire a typical Berber music performed using drums under the sky full of stars.

If you wish to rise with the dawn to watch the sun beginning its daily arc with a cool blue morning sky as it illuminates the desert shadows before becoming a glowing ball of fire, then your desert camp hosts will wake you up very early to witness it don’t forget to take iconic photographs for the gram. You’ll return to a local hotel, where a welcome hot shower and breakfast await. we will leave Merzouga towards Rissani, which is the largest and the most crowded weekly Market in the South of Morocco, walk to see craft stores, dates market, animal trades ( such as goats, sheep, donkeys, camels, and cows ), and Continue our trip to Erfoud famous for its fossilized marbles before we reach the Todra Gorges, the highest oasis valley gorge in Morocco, Watch the panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. In the last day of our desert tour from Tangier to Merzouga via Sahara desert, we’ll continue driving along Dades Valley toward Ouarzazate, known as “Moroccan Hollywood” thanks to the Atlas Film Studio and other local spots used in filming. We’ll visit the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, an ancient Ksar that has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located along the former trade caravan route between the Sahara Desert and Marrakech, the Ksar is now often used as a filming location for movies including The Jewel of the Nile, The Mummy, the Kingdom of Heaven and the Games of Thrones. From Ait Ben Haddou, you may wish to continue to the lesser-visited (and possibly more impressive) area of Telouet. Here, you can meander about the former palace of the Glaoui family.
