5 Days from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert Tour

Day 1Marrakech - Atlas Mountains - Kasbah Ben Haddou - Dades Valley

We will pick you up from your lodging in Marrakech, Riad or Hotel in the Medina, in order to drive to Ouarzazate, a former caravan town on the silk and salt route in the eastern foothills of the Atlas Mountains. First thing first, we will travel through the dramatic landscape of the High Atlas Mountains passing through the Berber town of Taddert and over the 2260 meters high Tizi-in-Tichka pass. We will stop at the famous Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, 30 kilometers from Ouarzazate. The kasbah is one of the most intriguing red earth castles lining the ancient road of the Kasbahs, and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Lunch by the Kasbah and continue our way to Dades Gorge via Ouarzazate. On, through the “Road of the thousand Kasbahs”- the fascinating “sandcastles”.we will continue in our journey to stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose’s city” known for roses and its annual festival during the roses harvest in May, and then continue to our hotel in the heart of the Dades Gorge where it will be the first night in our 5 days Sahara tour

Day 2Dades Valley - Todra Gorges - Tinjdad - Erfoud - Merzouga

After breakfast in the hotel, Leave the Dades valley towards Tinghir and the Todra Gorges, the highest oasis valley gorge in Morocco, Watch the panoramic views of the old mud Berber villages overlooking the valley. Get to the Gorge and walk under the 300m high red cliff, where many Rock-climbers come to enjoy their preferred sport. Continue our trip to Erfoud famous for its fossilized marbles, we leave Erfoud behind and head to Rissani, it is the largest and the most crowded weekly Market in the South of Morocco, walk to see craft stores, dates market, animal trades ( such as goats, sheep, donkeys, camels, and cows. Heading furthermore to one of the main desert destinations, Merzouga where you will have a relaxing night in the hotel, you’ll be fully rested for the next day’s Sahara adventure.

Day 3Exploring Merzouga Desert Area

Today you are going to experience one of the most memorable moments of your Morocco Sahara adventure as you make your way into the dunes of Morocco’s Erg Chebbi region of the Sahara Desert, the largest dunes in the desert of Morocco. You’ll have this morning to explore Merzouga before preparing for a memorable night under the stars. We will visit the Gnawa people, originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Enjoy the panoramic view behind the Erg Chebbi of sand dunes. Afterward, we will head to the nomad’s families in their tents at Kem Kem and having tea with them, absolutely you will discover a new sense of life. And why not an hour ATV Quad biking in the dunes. In the afternoon, meet your camel, trek through the desert, over the red dunes, until all you see is sand and sky, and the quiet is only broken by the occasional snort of the camels and the soft sound of their steps on the sand. Stop to watch the sunset along the way, To arrive at your camp, where you will be welcomed with mint tea and cookies. After some time to admire the sand dunes and the surrounding landscapes, get ready for a Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to the campfire. After dinner, you will gather around the fire to admire a typical Berber music performed using drums under the sky full of stars.

Day 4Merzouga- Rissani - Nekob - Draa Valley - Ouarzazate

It will be a remise not to rise with the sun as it begins its glorious route for another day. If you wake up at first light, take a seat on the sand dunes and watch the sunrise slowly and hang in the dusty summer skies for a moment or two. We will return to a local hotel, where a welcome hot shower and breakfast awaits. then leave towards Ouarzazate via Alnif, Tazarine, Nkob, and Agdez. We will enjoy the sightseeing of the fascinating Draa Valley which has hundreds of Berber Kasbahs and with its millions of palm trees. then we continue our way to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa” the town has one of the biggest studios, the homes of the wealthy and powerful, has been the backdrop to many Hollywood blockbusters and major historical television programs, including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. If you are a fan of A Game of Thrones you will recognize it.

Day 5Ouarzazate - The High Atlas Mountains - Marrakech

After breakfast in the hotel, we can visit Taourirt Kasbah. This former Glaoui residence, situated on the edge of the town, is considered to be one of the most beautiful kasbahs of Morocco. After that, we will drive outside the town to enjoy a private visit of the Atlas Corporation Studio, after that we will start our way back to Marrakech across the Atlas Mountains. The winding roads, changing scenery, colorful valleys, shepherds with their flocks, Berber villages high up on the hillsides, make this a picturesque drive. And when we get to Tizi’n Tichka Pass, we’ll be at the highest point in the Atlas Mountains. We can stop for photos and to breathe in some fresh mountain air. Arriving at Marrakech where we will drop you off at your hotel where your 5days Sahara tour ends
